Keep a lil' Christmas

Last year I kept (2) strings
of jingle bells up for
decoration in the house.
One was red and I kept it

on a mirror hanging in my family room, the
other was gold and I
kept it hanging on a pot-rack above
my bar.
This year I kept this little sparkly"
"jingle" cause I liked it so much.
Hanging on the red string
of bells from last year
.

And this little string
of Ginger bread men
hanging from the pot rack.
They will keep me happy
all year

365 Days ago . . . . Repeat

Exactly a year ago I had cold.
How do I know that you ask?
Well, last year on January 24 I was in
Sunny So. California to my uncles 80th
birthday celebration.
I was coming down with a terrible
head cold then. I remember well the
pressurization of the airplane cabin made my
sinuses feel like they would explode.
So, here it is a year later and I have
another cold. The following is
what is keeping me going . . . .barely
I've missed (2) days of work.

800 mg of this every 8 hours
Washed down with this - extra pulp
This at night, but not too much or I get the bed spins!!!

HUMAN RIGHTS

I know that today we are celebrating MLK for all the fabulous things he did for human rights. Along with that, I was pondering today all of the rights we have and I thought of a film my daughter encouraged me to watch. "Iron Jawed Angels" It's a true story of two women who make a stand for women's rights, and end up shaping the future of America. It has Hilary Swank, Angelica Houston and Julia Ormond. Such a great story, once you see it you will NEVER take your right to vote for granted. The women are thrown in jail, with an ensuing hunger strike making headline news. The women's resistance to being force-fed earns them the nickname "The Iron Jawed Angels." It is gut-wrenching to see this nasty little chapter of American history.

Green-eyed monster . . .and contentment

WARNING: This contains religious content :-)

Have you ever been envious?

Well, of course you have.

I had an experience last night of envy, contentment and a wink from God.
First of all, we have new ward boundaries. . . so lots of new people. I have a new Visiting Teaching companion. She's close to my age (actually a tinsy weensy bit older...by 6 years) we have alot in common, she's newly retired (I'm looking forward to that) she swears (our favorites are: damn, hell, shit and an occasional son-of-a-biscuit-biter (bitch)) We both have older homes that we are "fixing up". She is thankful for her husband (as am I) She has a love for our Heavenly Father and a sincere desire to be a better person (I try). We also have 2nd marriages, and a blended family and years of living with children we love, and trying to be the best parents we can under, sometimes difficult, circumstances.

Anyway, we visit a younger incredibly beautiful, talented, sweet, (did I mention THIN) woman. She is someone I've worked with in our Primary. She is smart (CPA) and funny and looks like she "has it all" including 6-bedroom home that is GORGEOUS and BIG and NEW and..and..and...

Well, after a visit with her last night she confided that her new marriage and newly acquired teen-age children are a great challenge. After a long discussion on how "worth it" the effort will be, she told us she was so happy we had been assigned to her and the encouragement we gave. She mentioned calling us when thing got crazy for a "pep-talk". I went home feeling grateful for my husband who has always treated my children with love, for his sweet daughter who has always treated me with love. I was also grateful for a kind Heavenly Father who knows each of our needs and provides for them, usually through others actions (my "wink" from God)

My home will never stack up to new, I can paint, lay new carpet, put in new fixtures and it will always be like a "new dress on an old whore". But. . . .I have a family that I love and love me, and my years of struggling with blending our families are mostly behind us. We've come through it and we all love each other.

Thank you God.

AMEN

Pedicures and the Triangle of Death!!

How, you ask, can a perfectly lovely Friday afternoon pedicure lead to talk of the "Triangle of Death"? Well, as you know if you have (4) women in a room together (two giving and two receiving pedicures - and they all speak English!!) the discussion evolves in many directions. Being that is is a full service day spa, we eventually turned our conversation to nose waxing, and the different methods. (These sound painful, but I was assured by the estheticians they are not.) I made the statement that "those hairs in your nose serve a purpose, I think they can be trimmed, but plucking or waxing just seems too extreme." So the conversation ended, or I should say moved to other "pressing" matters of national if not world importance. (hehehehehehe) So later when I was telling Megan about the methods of waxing nose hair (yes sometimes it is unsightly and straggly) she told me about Dr. Oz and his "Triangle of Death" so for your reading pleasure I've copied the information about it. Makes you re-think that un-sightly blemish on your cheek!

Humans just can't seem to keep their hands off their faces. They are committed to plucking and popping any imperfections that they can see in the mirror. As tempting as this is, over-enthusiastic grooming can be dangerous if performed in the area of the face called the "triangle of death." This triangle extends from the corners of the mouth to the bridge of the nose.

The reason for this dramatic moniker is that blood vessels in the triangle drain to the back of the head where it meets up with the veins at the base of the brain. From there it is a quick shot to the cavernous sinus, which receives blood from this nearby web of veins. Infections here can cause vision loss, paralysis, headaches and sometimes death. How the bacteria get there can have something to do with how we primp our faces.

Nosing Around
The nose is the body's first line of defense against airborne invaders, so it should come as no surprise that there are colonies of germs living inside the nasal cavity. For the most part, bacteria and debris don't get very far into the body because there is a very efficient protective mechanism inside the nose. Tiny hairs called cilia move ever so slightly to snare and trap what they can in mucous-coated hairs, keeping anything from reaching the breathing passages and gaining access to the bloodstream.

It is the proximity of the nose, mouth and lips to the veins on our face and behind our eyes that can provide bacteria instant access to the brain. Disturbing the integrity of the skin anywhere in the triangle, gives bacteria the freedom to wander.

Picket Lines
If you have a habit of picking more winners from your nose then the stock market, you may want to heed to this advice. Any time you tweeze out a nose or lip hair, pierce the face, or pop a pimple, bacteria collects in the wound and can invade the triangle of death’s blood supply. Similarly, facial wounds, surgical incisions and gums can become an avenue of infection. The best mode of prevention is to be a non-picker.

Here is how you can keep out of the triangle of death:

Clear nasal passages with a nasal rinse and a neti pot as part of your daily morning hygiene routine
Gently clear crust from the nose carefully using a clean tissue and not your nail or other device
Avoid popping or picking at facial pimples, blackheads, cuts and scabs
Treat any facial infection, sore or cut immediately
Line your nose with a emollient jelly to make it less crusty
Use rotary nose-hair trimmers that gently cut the hairs rather than pulling them out at the root
Rethink the facial piercing

What makes your butt itch?

Things that make my butt itch:

Drivers who talk on the phone
Drivers who pick their nose
Drivers who "wander"
Drivers who
Drivers in general
Washing my car and the next day it looks dirty
Cleaning my stairs then have plumbers walk thru for a repair (this was actually a PAIN in my butt) and leave the stairs all dirty . . . . again

This leads to a small digression on my butt-itch rambling.

Plumbing, running hot and cold water,

we sooo take it for granted.

We had a small plumbing fiasco that started Sunday afternoon

as Boyd was exiting the shower,

and ended Tuesday evening at about 8:45 p.m.

This included a trip to Home Depot on Sunday,

and trip to Standard Plumbing on Monday

(for a part that has a "lifetime" warranty - more on that later)

Turning off the water to the house completely

(no shower for me on Tuesday morning)

A few "banned" words, cuts and scrapes on Boyd's fingers,

and finally a pair of plumbers

(actually one was a plumber and one was an electrician)

showing up at 6:30 p.m.

(after promising to be there between 2:00-4:00)
Oh where can I go fore peace!!!

After all that the new shower fixture has a cartridge part that leaks!!!

So Boyd will get to go to Standard Plumbing and fight to good fight

to get a new part and not wait until the manufacturer sends it to us.
